I am very very frustrated by my inablity to find information online about Rupert Carabin. I've dug though all of the google pages that come up in any language and all I've really learned is that he was a French Symbolist sculptor (who worked in wood, bronze, and ceramics and apparently on occasion gold), who was born in 1862 died in 1932 and was associated with the Rose + Croix Salon. His work is seen by more than a few as misogynistic, particularly this chair.
For some reason I find myself wanting to know who he was. I want to know what he really thought of women and what kind of man he was. Since I cannot seem to find any more information, I suppose I'll start digging around more into the Symbolists and/or Salon de la Rose + Croix. Maybe I can learn more that way. However, I'm also quite interested in reading more about the Glasgow Four. Ah choices, choices.
