Back from Boston. It was an enjoyable trip. There was a stupid snafu caused by me having accidentally booked myself for a PM flight rather than an AM one. I'm usually paranoid about that but obviously I slipped up this time. Tomas fixed it all with a call to Delta and a $25 charge then I headed to security for an hour and a half wait, barely making it to board on time. It was somewhat nerve wracking. I didn't have a chance to call Jeffrey and let him know I'd corrected my mistake. He spent some anxious moments till he managed to get in touch with Tomas and find out what happened.
The rest of Thursday was spent fairly quietly at their home. Friday morning I woke up with a nutty desire to see the touristy sites of Boston, 80% chance of rain be damned! In all my past trips up North, we'd often walked past historical sites on the way to see something else but never actually gone to them. So we set out to walk part of the city's Freedom Trail. For the first half we had only a slight drizzle to contend with. First we visited a nifty old cemetery where we saw both Paul Revere's grave and Mother Goose's as well as this very fascinating one all in Latin. Once Jeffrey brushes up on his Latin skills, I'll convince him to give me a thorough translation. Moseying on down the trail we saw many interesting bits of architecture and other things I didn't get pictures of (bad me, or bad Jeffrey since he was the one with my camera) and then the church where Paul Revere hung the lanterns. That was one of my favorite history stories when I was a kid so I got a kick out of it. Shortly after we passed that church it started to rain buckets. We stopped at the oldest cemetery in Boston then headed back towards Paul Revere's house, taking this picture just to prove that yes, it was really raining an awful lot. I can't imagine having had more fun than I did though (well maybe if we'd had a serious history buff to act as a private tour guide and I could have asked a zillion and one questions).
Saturday was much less um, well less rainy, and less historical though we did briefly stop by the beautiful beautiful Boston Public Library while out for sushi and Lush. On Sunday we went out to Harvard Square to get Dim Sum but the place we'd intended to go was closed to we had a late breakfast instead. Then back home for a few hours before the trip back to the airport.
I enjoyed playing the tourist and I love Boston. If only we could afford to live there...
