Anyone know off the tops of their heads if the golden eagle has any sort of mythological or religious significance anywhere?

Golden eagle feathers are used in Scotland to indicate being nobility (or being granted the right to wear them by the nobility.)
See "Balmoral".

Golden Eagles were the standard of Roman Legions, which was later used by Napoleonic armies. It's not strictly religious/mythic, but I think it counts.
