(no subject)

Tomas's mother called today and wanted us to meet her and Tomas's sister for lunch. My sister in law is a complete whacko. She spent the whole lunch talking about how God had been telling her that she was needed to move to the woods and prepare to be tortured for being a christian and that the world was coming to an end. I told her that people had been saying such things since christianity began but she is convinced that god is speaking to her and she is having dreams which of course we are all supposed to believe. I feel sorry for my mother in law. At least I don't have to live with her. I'm afraid there would be bitch slapping involved.
Musical Buffy is tonight. Woohoo. That will be fun. Such is my life. Musical Buffy being the highlight of my week. Maybe we can squeeze out some money to go to the movies this weekend.

But, i sympathize with ya on the in-law nutter.
Hey,I have a family of Christians...I consider myself a Christian of different church....ahem,long story.
At any rate, some of those 'newly found religion types' are quite extreme...hehh...I have one family member in my mind, who watches the pink haired nutter who speaks on tv. Do you know who I am talking about? Maybe it's a California thing. But, i would only suggest watching this lady if you are drunk with friends---she's hilarious! She reminds me of Tammy Fae Baker or perhaps she is her! heh heh. Well,on a better not---the Buffy Musical is going to kick booty!!!! We are taping it!!!!
Happy watchings~

Hah, don't think I've seen her. The sister in law isn't a new Christian. She's been crazy since I've known her it just has taken various forms over the years.

Strange dreams seem to be the order of the day these days. Everyone's anxieties are heightened because of Sept. 11. She will come back to reality sooner or later.

She's never had anything to do with reality.

A stranger comments:

I always think the best thing to do with such people is to encourage them. Egg them on. Feed their fantasies.

Has she decided which set of woods she needs to move into? Did God indicate whether they should be deciduous or coniferous?

Just exactly what kind of torture was she expecting to receive. Thumbscrews? Chinese forearm-twisting? A night at the opear with Bill Clinton?

It would be difficult to persuade her to give up this nonsense by rational argument, since she knows that you don't see the world like her and she's got to sense that you don't much like her. All she's going to do is react against whatever you say.

But if you tell her, really, that she hasn't done enough to accept Jesus Christ into her life, that you genuinely believe she hasn't done enough to explore her spiritual side, she might react against that by saying she's religious enough, thank you.

This kind of thing works with kids. But it may take a lot of exaggeration before you get her to start pushing back in the opposite direction.

Just a thought.

I can see many cases where that might work, and perhaps it would with her, but I think she may be too far removed from reality. She actually does know exactly what forest God wants her to move to and she had a "dream" about what kind of torture she will be receiving. My mother in law is hoping that my husband will be able to work some kind of wonder on her because she respects her big brother a lot but we think she will probably just stop listening to him as soon as she realizes that there will be no convincing him.
