Today while we were out eating lunch an older couple sat beside us. They sat in complete silence the entire time we were there, talking only to give their order. The man kept his eyes moving around the room as though he were trying hard not to let them land on his wife who mostly looked down at the table. I wonder what it must be like to be at the end of your life and be living with someone who you share meals with in silence, not even looking at each other. It was almost heartbreaking.
