I've discovered a new enclave of Dada'ists that I am going to have to delve into. Spent a few hours today reading about Baroness Else von Freytag-Loringhoven. My Amazon wish list has grown out of control. I use it, like most people probably, to keep track of the things I want to buy. Today I tried to prune it back some but had no luck. I want them all. I'm curious about how much it would cost to buy everything (including those two oop Francesca Woodman books that people are selling second hand for $300+). They should implement a "Buy All" button just for giggles.

I've got to slow down a little and start picking particular people to read about. I've been all willy nilly lately. Probably I'll pick up Women in Dad: Essays on Sex, Gender, and Identity next week and also one of the books about Man Ray. I want to get one with more text and fewer pictures. The other day I watched a crappy documentary about him, the voice over was heinous but it primarily featured his 'objects' and his paintings. Typically all you see are his photographs but really Man Ray was more interested in the other mediums he worked in. He only started taking pictures to photograph his paintings originally. I picked up a strain of misogyny in his pieces that I hadn't seen as much of in the photographs. There were bound female forms, dismembered female body parts, and headless torsos. It was strange. If anything though it just makes me more interested in finding out about him, kinda like Rupert Carabin (warning: big not-so-clear picture). I should be put off, but I'm not, I'm intrigued. Then again I'm a weirdo.

I used to be fascinated with Man Ray's model KiKi (Alice Prin) when I was in high school. Her and Edie Sedgwick.
