There's a pot of chicken stock simmering on the stove in preparation for the gumbo I'm making tonight. For some reason the smell is making me feel super ill this morning. I'm hoping this is another early sign of an eating disorder leading to thinness. Where does the phrase tongue-in-cheek come from anyway?

Time to get started on college applications. Terror Stage One.

Tomas thinks we need a new car. Ours is a rolling junk heap that stays constantly messy and barely runs. I would much rather clean it, have its major issues repaired (brakes and an overheating problem) and keep using it. A car payment does not sound the slightest bit appealing right now.
