May. 19th, 2005 07:41 pmI bit the bullet today and bought Tinderbox. It was an enormous amount of money for -me- to spend on a piece of software considering the simplicity of my life. I'm not a career woman, not a student yet, not a writer or well anything much other than a mother right now. What I am is obsessive about certain things, Dada, Art Nouveau, most anything that touches on Paris in between about 1890-1930 or so and oh about a zillion other topics. I was trying to contain the bits of information I wanted to keep tabs on in cheaper (perfectly fine) software and things were getting out of hand. One thing I really wanted to do was make a big wall where I could post names and link them with strings so I could see all these webs of connections that pop up between the people I'm interested in. Tinderbox will let me do that -and- add notes! Jeffrey had to do a little convincing but a little demonstration seemed to do the trick. At least this will give me some time to learn to use it before I start school and really need it.
Here is a picture of the wee bit I've done so far. You can't read the names but all of those can be clicked on, info added to, more boxes added into them with yet more info! For instance the box for Duchamp has boxes for two of his major artworks in it as well as biographical information.
