I need some new books. Looking for something a bit challenging but still entertaining. Really narrows things down eh? Well... YOU... yes YOU .... what is your favorite book? Tell me! Tell me now! *does some jedi gestures* You want to tell me what your favorite books are. You are now telling me. You are pressing the 'comment' button.

Who? Me? Well, since you asked:

Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth Series: Wizard's First Rule (first book in series)

Anything by the following: Patterson, Ludlum, Grisham, Steinbeck, Heinlein, Asimov.

You might also check my ToDo list on my profile page, those are the books I have finsihed this year...I would recommend either of the Dune prequels. They are very good. Atreides should be read first.

Good Luck, have fune.

Thanks. I was considering the Dune books. :) I neeeeeeed to read some Heinlein and I've read Foundation by Asimov and really enjoyed it. He just has so many books it's hard to know which ones are better.

I, Robot by Asimov is good, and any of that grouping...most anything by Heinlein but my all time favorite by him is Stranger in a Strange Land. You might also want to read Five Smooth Stones by Sylvia Plath (I believe). It is about racial tension and life in the South in the 60's. Then thers are a whole bunch of others...depending on what you like.

Dune: House Atriedes is a good first chioice though.

Yeah, I've been scoffed at for not having read any Heinlein. :)

Hmmm... I'm not sure what your type of books are but here are some ideas for you.

1. Watership Down - An amazing book if you haven't read it, even if it is about some rabbits :-)

2. Fantasy -The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizebeth Moon. My favorite book because of the way it deals with good and evil. You can ask Birdofparadox about it as well.

3. I'm a bad person, I don't read much literature, it's either fun fantasy sci-fi stuff or philosophy stuff :-(. But books are amazing.

Heh, I read Watership Down when I was 10 or something. Might be a good one to pull back out for a second look.
I've never heard of Elizabeth Mood... sounds interesting...
I read a fair amount of fantasy and sci-fi too. I used to be more of a 'literature' type until someone introduced me to Sandman and it was all downhilll from there. :)

Thank you and hi there!

Beautiful Losers - Leonard Cohen

1984 by George Orwell.

this book has seriously changed my life, and my outlook on things. probably one of the reasons i'm so anti-authority. he is a fuckin genius. read Animal Farm too if you haven't already.

but since those are pretty mainstream, you might want to check some others out such as.....

A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess
many saw the movie but never read the book. it is amazing... get the one with the dictionary in the back though...

The Silmarillion - JRR Tolkien
the beginning of time, and everything. this book had got to be my favourite, right next to 1984. maybe even above it. read it.. read it now...

Black Sun Rising - CS Friedman
bitchin sci-fi book about another world that is alive, and the use of the fae, the earth's energy, that can be used and manipulated, but also take shape of your worst fears. my god, this book is so damned good, it is the first part of a trilogy. get it now!

ok, i'm done :)

I've read 1984 (Greg bitched me out for not having read it). I should have read Animal Farm. Surely I can get a copy of it at the used book store. :)
I haven't thought of reading Clockwork Orange but I bet it would be fantastic.
Tolkien, I was thinking about rereading the trilogy since I hated them the first time I read them (I think I was 9 or so).

Chris, have you read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley? I bet you would really like it.

lol.. yes and I love it. where do you think David Thrussel got the name for his project Soma?

I was going to recommend it actually, but wasn't sure if you read 1984 yet. now that I know you have read both, you get coolness points. good girl! now get to that Sci-FI/Fantasy stuff!

Oh puh-lease boy! I've been a voracious reader since before you were born. :) Just because I'm relatively new to sci-fi and fantasy (only the past 6 years or so) doesn't mean I have only read a tiny amount of it. Yes, there are some glaring omissions in my library but I've packed away a good many books in that period and only have slowed down because I haven't as much time with the kids and all.
Tossing it back in your court... you have read Ender's Game right?
