The awesome picture taking goddess on my flist is posting pictures of strawberries and now I'm craving them. Damnit. I get to go grocery shopping on Wednesday. I miss shopping for my food. I really do enjoy it, particularly selecting produce.

Tomas brought home a BBC program about the evils of religion by some famous atheist. It pushed a lot of my buttons not so much because I disagreed with what he was saying but more because the way he was saying it raised my hackles. I'm caught between a desire to respect the faiths of other people including people that I love dearly and really despising what religion does to people, especially Christianity.
Where do you draw the line when you are dealing with a belief system that at its root (and as practiced by most people) doesn't allow for them to respect the beliefs of other people? And I'd go so far as to agree with Mr. Inflammatory Atheist when he suggested that in some cases it might even be child abuse.
My mother just yesterday told me that the guy from the Save the Gays (not the actual name) 'ministry' that my father attended called her and asked her to be on their 'intercessory board'. I'm not exactly sure where she stands personally about the issue since the last time we discussed it she expressed some doubts that gays can really change their wicked ways but I know she still believes it is sin. I'm just hoping she can think of five million better things to pray for than the Evil Gays. *sigh*
The famous atheist was mean. He was a borderline troll. Every word he chose in that BBC special seemed designed to belittle and cut. It was just cruel. I can't imagine anyone being converted or convinced by what he had to say. He was preaching to the choir. He spent a great deal of energy pointing out what idiots people were for having faith. It was a grand display or arrogance and smugness. Like an extra long episode of Penn and Teller's Bullshit but without the self-awareness and sense of humor. It made me sad.
