Mar. 20th, 2001 02:13 pmJust got back from lunch. I saw a marvelous thing, I hope. The courthouse in Jonesboro has, as long as I can recall, had an ugly modern structure built up around the original 19th century structure completely hiding it. I've always hated it and wished I could see what the old building looked like since I've only ever seen pictures of it in Clayton Co. history books. Today as we were driving past I noticed that the newer crap had been torn down and the old courthouse was there. It looks like it's mostly just the shell but I am praying that they will restore it and not tear it down too. Atlanta has had such an awful history of tearing down it's historical structures. I feel a connection with old Jonesboro since I've spent most of my life (for good or bad) here. It has made me sad every time I've seen one of the older homes around here torn down. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction.
