Rhiannon now has the house's most expensive window coverings. This says more about the lack of "grown up" window treatments in the rest of the house than about the poshness of her new curtains, though they are nice curtains.

After Ikea and lunch we went by the yard store where I learned I missed out on their closeout sale of Cascade 220 last week but picked up what they've replaced it with, Shepherd's Wool. It's incredibly soft especially since I've been knitting an iPhone cozy with the leftover Noro which is well, very not soft. I hope it doesn't pill like a mother-ucker.

I finished two books in the past couple of days and am now out of exciting material to read so I reckon I'll have to watch movies until Neal Stephenson's latest arrives on Wed. Woot.

I'm feeling so boring and unattractive still.

Thus ends my thrilling weekend.

Anathem was fucking amazing. I finished it in a little over nine hours.

You'll love it.

I'm sure I will. I loved all of his other books.

I don't think I ever leave you comments relevant to your posts anymore (sorry!) but I wondered if you have recommendations for good kids' stuff at Ikea. Do the girls have kid-sized beds or twin ones?

At the moment all signs point to this little guy in the spring sometime, but we are open to ages 3-12, one child or two same-gender siblings, so I won't be actually decorating until we know what's what. I'm just trying to get my planning together before then.

Rhiannon is using their cheapest bunk bed set which is currently falling apart. Ikea's stuff really seems to vary in quality. Isadora is in her own room on a full size futon. Twin size beds are probably best if you're not certain the age of the child. The smaller beds would already be too small for Rhiannon. I wouldn't get a bunk bed though unless I knew the temperament of the kid, not after Isadora did her Kiki the flying witch imitation and cracked her skull open when she was four. She was much too young.

That pretty much matches what I'd been thinking, so thanks. I just wanted to hear something from an actual parent!

The little boy looks precious. I don't understand why they say no pets though. Energetic boys need dogs. :) Unless of course they are prone to setting pets on fire or something.

It's usually code for setting pets on fire. We've got a fair amount of backchannel information on him and in his case it's that as a toddler he played rough with a dog who then bit him on the face. I gather that they still live together happily, but that gets him coded like an animal abuser.

:( Poor kid. I hope he gets into a good place (yours or somewhere!).
