Jul. 2nd, 2001 01:22 pmAfter putting some more thought into it I have more to say about A.I. I'll try not to give away too much but if you are picky about such things you might not want to read on.
To start off with the beginning of the film hit all of my "mommy" buttons. It was rather over sentimental but Haley Joel Osment's acting was phenomenal. When I saw him in 6th Sense I just assumed he was one of those cutesy child actors who was really good at making serious faces but I've changed my opinions. A little while into the movie the character Teddy is introduced. I've heard him called "the anti Jar Jar" in another review somewhere and I think that is a fair description. He is about as subtle as a walking talking teddy bear can be but so marvelous. Later in the film there is a scene set in something called a Flesh Fair. While watching the movie I wasn't bothered so much by it. When Tomas and I were talking about it later that night he said that he felt it would look dated in a few years and he was right. Sci-fi movies best succeed when they can be watched 20 years later and still seem fairly fresh. I understand the point the scene was making but I think it could have been done in a more inventive manner. Around this time Jude Law's character becomes part of the story. I'm still divided about him. I am a fan of his and at times I think he's brilliant and at other times think his character, Gigolo Joe, is boring and almost completely unnecessary to the plot. Plot schmot... it's still nice to see him. Tra la la the movie moves on to it's much discussed last half/ending. The more I've considered it the less I like the ending. It's just so out of place and really clashes with the rest of the movie.
Arg... I'd say more but the girls are crawling on me and making it nigh unto impossible for me to think/type. More later maybe.
