For Christmas J bought me this fantastic (and massive) book about Art Deco. It's a new area for me completely but well within the time period that fascinates me most lately, just not something I've gotten the chance to read up on much yet. 28 pages in I run across this picture of something called an elevator garage. Now the picture itself is interesting, the photographer seems to have a great sense of humor from the other few pictures shown on the page I linked to above (must read more) but I'm also really interested in just what the dickens an elevator garage is?! I mean it's pretty clear what it is but why are they not used anymore? Was this just something that was in use in this one specific Chicago parking lot? It just looks really fascinating. This is why it takes me so long to get through these books. One photograph is leading me down at least two rabbit trails. I do love it.
