This has been a disorienting day and I'm still too in the middle of it to comment on it right now.

So politics!

Tomas has been ranting about this for months but I didn't believe him until the lovely and talented Roisnoir started posting about it. So instead of digging up a bunch of new ones I'm just going to steal her links.

2257 was initially designed as a child porn law. Good thing, right? Of course. Well lately they've decided to tack all sorts of other lovely things onto it under the auspices of protecting the children, because who doesn't want to protect children? The thing is these changes are in all likelihood there to make it easier for the government to go after all sorts of people it doesn't like, particularly in the adult industry. And yes, they are taking it seriously. Very seriously.

Wired article:
Blue Law Makes Webmasters See Red

Roisnoir says this is a readable copy of the law. I'll take her word on that. It made me cross eyed. :)

An adult industry article on it. Pay close attention to the last part.
Ammended 2257 Reulations Published in Federal Register

I hate hate how this has slipped in unnoticed by soooo many people.

We can only hope that they deem this one too broad, then.
It goes into effect tomorrow, and I half expect to be greeted when I get into the office by a flock of of inspectors from the Attorney General's office.

Yeah, but with things like the Patriot Act around I can't say that I have a lot of faith in the system right now.

And anyway, that doesn't help me this week! 2257 keeps stealing my husband! He ends up at work 14 hours a day because people are shutting their sites down or moving content. *grumble*

fear causes a lot of things. however, I thought he was working long hours anyway. this is just a new reason for it. there would be a different one otherwise most likely.

Actually it had been a bit calmer the last month or two. Got too comfortable with it. :)
