  1. baroness elsa freytag-loringhoven:
She was an amazing character who was either crazy or the living embodiment of Dada or both. History (and its retelling by men) has made it tricky to tell the true depth of her influence but it is quite likely that she was a major influence on many Dada artists including Duchamp. I find her utterly fascinating for so many reasons.
  2. colored glass:
Colored glass in its many forms is just so completely relaxing to me. I need more of it. I used to have these long multicolored blown glass icicles that hung from the ceiling of my room years ago. They were my some of my favorite possessions. I'd lay in bed and watch them twirl slowly in the air and the light filter through them. Tomas broke them on accident and I've missed them ever since.
  3. elia kazan:
Fucking awesome director even if he did sell his friends out in the bad bleak McCarthy era. Baby Doll is in my personal top ten movies list.
  4. genealogy:
    Just can't stop digging.
  5. lars von trier:
Another wonderful director. I guess time will tell if he is of the same stuff as Kazan... if his films will stand the test of time but I'm rather fond of them. Breaking the Waves is also in my personal top 10 movies.
  6. meret oppenheim:
Fuzzy teacup chic! Yeah and um the pictures Man Ray took of her are just damn hot.
  7. old photographs:
In my quest for affordable antiques (see #10) I started picking up old photographs. There were a few times I bought lots of them off ebay and now and then I'll pick them up in antique stores. One of these days I'll get around to finding a way to inexpensively display them.
  8. rupert carabin:
Mysterious artist/furniture maker in the Art Nouveau period. I've seen a few pictures of his pieces but I cannot find out a lot about him. His work smacks heavily of misogyny and some sadistic tendencies and like quite a few artists from his time period he seems to have dabbled in quasi-occultic practices. I'd love to learn more about him someday.
  9. terry gilliam:
Directors directors directors. Tomas and I saw The Brothers Grimm a couple of weeks ago and while we weren't really impressed and I'd rank it as the worst Gilliam film to date, I'd still rather see a bad movie of his than about 95% of the rest of the dreck that gets made. I'm really looking forward to Tideland.
  10. vintage hats:
When I was a younger teen I really wanted a cheap antique to collect. I settled on vintage hats. I haven't bought any in years and rarely get to go antiquing at all anymore but I'm sure one day I'll pick them back up again.
