Mojitos are a MUCH better use for rum than rum & Cokes.

Agreed! But you need to be more prepared to make them.

"No, I don't think it sounds like a gay drink. Mo-hee-toe…."

(i should probably say that i like Mojitos, myself, but they always remind me of that Family Guy bit.)

It gave me a giggle but after five mojitos most things were giving me the giggles.

Did you use any particular recipe? I haven't generally had good rum experiences and am set on finding something (beyond my paternal relatives' traditional and decent Mount Gay and tonic) that works. I'm sure I won't make it myself at first since then I'd be stuck with rum that neither of us would be very keen on drinking, but I'm intrigued.

I started off with a recipe calling for 1tsp sugar gently muddled with two sprigs of mint, plus two ounces of light rum and the juice of half a lime and a dash of seltzer water but gradually over the course of 5 mojitos this evening the proportions of rum to seltzer has slid somewhat and I like mine sweeter than one tsp.

Thanks! I always forget the extent to which it's basically a mint juelp with lime (and, obviously, rum). I think this calls for experimentation.
