danuvTomas and I got a new sofa this weekend.
Years and years ago I bought this couch over the internet for $300. It came via UPS in three boxes, was made of plywood, foam, some stuffing and a cover and had to be assembled like a jigsaw puzzle. It was never very comfortable or durable, things which can't really be expected from a $300 internet sofa I guess, but over the past couple of years had degraded to the point where when you sat on it your arse might very well slip into one of the "storage" bins that were under the plywood covers holding the cushions up. A month or so ago the entire arm side fell off. The sofa had to go. We replaced it on Saturday with a mid-range Ikea model that while not gorgeous has both removable (washable!) slipcovers and structural integrity. It should last us through the kid's most destructive years. Now to keep the cat from using it as a scratching post.
I know, not terribly exciting but oh well.
