Crawling out from my WoW addiction I decided to start knitting again mostly because I need to make Christmas gifts for the family members who wouldn't want pottery. My yarn stash is all neatly tucked away in a large ikea bookshelf and while locating the perfect yarn for a pink elephant for my niece, I realized that I have many skiens of rather expensive wool laying around unloved. I bought a lot of it for soakers and pants for Jack which he no longer needs but there is also aawful lot of purple or other colors that will work well for either gender and I have no idea what to do with it all. The greens, browns and some of the dark blue will become a puppy and a giraffe for my nephews but I have some really lovely stuff tthat frankly I'm feeling too selfish to make into something for a kid. I wish I were not so fail at matching yarn to projects.

Do you use ravelry?

Look up the yarn, and see what projects other people have completed in it..

Search for your weight yarn/needle size, and then look at the most popular projects.. (Possibly limited by difficulty level, gender, etc. if you have someone in mind for colors, etc.)

Something is bound to look appealing..

I do use it. We're friended there. :D I've been browsing patterns, I'm just not so very good at looking at them and going, 'Oh yes! Perfect!'

Doh! Don't use the friend feature much...

So, what yarn are you trying to find a use for?

Any general ideas about type of finished object? And you're a moderately studly knitter, right?

I guess I'm a learning knitter who can generally follow a pattern but tends to pick projects with lots of lazy knitting or at least easily learned repeats. hehe

Right now I have three skeins of http://www.ravelry.com/people/chavaleh/stash/carys-bfl-7 this that I need to do something with. So 660 yards of hand dyed worsted wool in shades of purple and grey.

I started typing up all the other skeins I have laying around and decided that was too much work. I was in a yarn club for a year or so and accumulated a lot of single skeins or two skeins with one being a variegated yarn and the other being a coordinating solid.

Oh! Great name -and- has "brainless" in the description. Looks perfect. ;)

I also really liked the basketweave scarf, might be great for the two skeins of merino I have. Thanks. :D

Not having met you (right?) or even seen many pictures, my mental picture of you includes something like that (especially with a bit of extra color in the variegated) suiting you. And it's just the right length to use it up..

We should meet up and knit somewhere. :-)
