Flipping through channels on tv I came across a woman on MTV who was talking about how the terrorists take starving children and put them in their training school and how through food they teach hate. Several 'famous' people went on to talk about how this would be the defining moment of our generation. I certainly see the impact it has made on my generation in terms of the way they feel about our country and their own sense of connection to others. I think some of the cynicism has fallen away. What would it be like if instead of destroying what little is left of Afghanistan if, while rooting out and capturing the people who did this, we came in and fed those people? If we turned the generosity we know Americans have in abundance and poured our hearts into healing the hurt that our indifference and ignorance have caused? If hate can be taught through food can't love?

I totally see where you're coming from, and it seems like a good idea. However, nationalists like Osama bin Laden have 300 million dollars and have made no move to feed these poor children (without training them to be killers). If they just came to us and said "hey, we need your help. Please help us feed our people" we would do it...because hey, we've never turned down the opprotunity to help people in need...

But maybe they don't want our help, you know?

I don't know, food for thought (hehe, pun.)
