Last night I had the idea to try getting something new to cook. I thought, hmmm... pad thai... I think I can handle that. So I picked up the various things needed for it including some tofu, which I have never cooked with. Tomas and I split up in the store to get various things and he took the cart with Rhiannon and the tofu with him. When we met up at the checkout he told me something smelled horrible. I caught a whiff of it on him and began to hunt through the groceries. Finally I tracked it down to the tofu which had (probably via Rhiannon) sprung a hole in it package and was pouring out it's liquid all over the rest of the groceries.
The stench which came from that nefarious fluid was the worst thing I have ever smelled in my life. The people behind us were retching, we were retching, the checkout lady was retching. We turned it into the people at the store, went home and decontaminated. Thus ends my tofu experiment.
Someone please tell me that was a seriously spoiled container of tofu because I am quite close to never touching the stuff again. *shudders*

Egads! Normally Tofu doesn't smell like anything at all. I can't imagine what the hell happened to it.

I doubt the store you went to sells it(unless you went to an asian market), but there is a kind of tofu that smells really bad. The straight translation of it is "stinky tofu" or more like bad smelling tofu... if you ignore the smell its quite good. But I'm pretty sure it was just some tofu gone bad.

No, it was just a regular pack of the "Firm Tofu" that is the only stuff they sell in the grocery stores around here. Heavens, if I do manage to work up the nerver to try it again I will make damn certain I don't keep it around too long. Sheesh.

I have no idea... and I don't think I want one. I've been seriously tofu-traumatized.
