So I'm thinking yoga might be a good thing for me to learn. I know I have several yoga types here, are there any beginners videos you guys recommend? Is trying to learn at home on my own a bad idea? There's just no way I'm getting out to a class around here.

I have a Yoga For Hardbodies DVD. Sounds like an oxymoron, eh?

Well I was a dancer for much of my under 18 life, but now I'm fat and out of shape. I just know enough about bodies and movement to know how much damage you can do from certain types of movements when you don't know what you're doing. Thus the hesitation about trying to learn on my own.

I'd actually recommend a book over a DVD: It's called Moving Into Balance, by Rodney Yee. It's an 8 week program to give you the foundations of a strong, healthy yoga practice.

The book is particularly awesome because it has a very specific practice for each day (6 days a week, for 8 weeks.) Each week focuses on a different kind of pose. It's got amazing photos and very detailled descriptions to help you get a feel for what your body should be doing.

that's the one!

I'd say follow his instructions carefully, but if something causes pain or puts undue pressure on a joint, to experiment with props (blankets, blocks, etc.) until it eases the pressure. Also, if there's anything I can do to help, that's what I'm here for!
